Definition of Adverb
An Adverb
adds something to the meaning of any part of speech expect a Noun or a Pronoun.
Kinds of Adverb:
Following
are the different kind of Adverb.
i.
Adverb of
manner
It tells
about the manner the action takes place and usually formed by adding-ly to
descriptive adjectives,
ii. Adverb of place
Indicates where and action took place,
e.g. here, there, up, down, everywhere.
iii. Adverb of time
Soon, now then, later, yet, still.
iv. Adverb of degree
Extermely, fairly, terribly.
v. Adverb of Certainty.
Obviously, apparently.
vi. Adverb of frequency or number
Often, always, occasionally, never,
ever, twice.
vii. Interrogative adverb
It inquires when, why, how, where an
action took place.
e.g. why did’t you come?
How are you feeling now?
Why did you fail?
FUNCTION OF ADVERB:
We know
that Adjective is a word which modifies or adds to the meaning of a noun.
Likewise the meaning of a verb, an adjective or another adverb.
Look at the following examples.
a.
Drive carefully
b.
Run slowly
c.
Eat quickly
In each of
these examples an adverb is modifying a verb.
a.
Some drivers are very careful.
b.
The weather is extremely cold.
c.
Kalsoom is too clever
In these
examples adverbs modify adjectives.
a.
Driver especially carefully on wet roads
b.
Walk very slowly on slippery places
c.
Shahida reads quickly.
