What is sentence?
A group of meaningful words is called
sentence.
Examples:
(1) Sara Iqbal’s dress is beautiful. (Meaningful)
(2) Girl a good is Laiba. (Not
meaningful)
DIFFERENT TYPES OF SENTENCES:
1.
Simple Sentence
2.
Compound Sentence
3.
Complex Sentence
4.
Compound Complex Sentence
SIMPLE SENTENCE:
A simple
sentence contains one finite verb and therefore one clause.
Example:
1. The Holy Quran gives guidance for success
in both the worlds.
COMPOUND SENTENCE:
A compound
sentence has more than one finite verb and more than one clause joined by
co-ordinate clauses of a compound sentence or co-ordinate clauses and each of
these is an independent clause expressing a complete idea – compound sentence
can be broken into two or more simple sentences.
COMPLEX SENTENCE:
A complex
sentence has one independent or principal clause and one or more subordinate
clauses. The independent clause expresses a complete idea and remains
meaningful even if the dependent clauses are removed from the sentence. The
dependent or subordinate clauses are meaningful only if the meaning of the
independent clause is added to them.
