The teacher moves from stating the rules towards applying them in examples. It is used for deductive from of teaching. Almost all the English language teachers in Pakistani schools follow formalist approach for teaching grammar. It is easy for the teacher but very difficult for the students to follow it.

Activist Approach:

It is a functional approach to the structure of language. The student is first taught what is the most useful and the most applicable. The rare and unusual things are left for the later stage. It familiarizes the students first with the forms of language used for general communication in speech.
Appropriate Approach:
An appropriate approach for the methodology is one which has following qualities.
It should correspond to the objectives of the method and lesson.
Its techniques should be economical for the teacher as well as for the students.
The techniques should be interesting and encouraging for all the students of all levels.
Approach should allow the teacher to carryout his full day’s teaching load by following these techniques.
